"Wonderful" is the latest single by Nigerian singer and songwriter, Burna Boy - culled from his next studio album, Twice As Tall, to be released in summer 2020.

In the song, Burna Boy emphasizes the need to return home (to Africa) no matter how far we travel. “It’s important for me to show that music is a uniting force that transcends state lines, barriers, and borders,” the singer said in a statement. “It serves as a note that no matter how far you go or how hard you work, you must be ready to come home - the pandemic forced us all to take refuge in our homes. Above all, Africa is home, it is the motherland to all people. For us to truly matter, Africa has to matter," he noted.

The video release of "Wonderful" came as a three-fold colossal event to Burna Boy and his team. Burna Boy was named BET's 2020 Best International Act one day before the video premiered and celebrated his 29th birthday just two days after the video launched on YouTube.

We present our translation of the song "Wonderful," as most of the lyrics are in the Nigerian Yoruba language and pidgin English. The song was produced by Jimi Adesanya, and the video was directed by Director K.

Lyrics & Translations:

Anywhere I go mo n’ lati pada si ile mi

(cuz mama mi won wa ni ile mi)

[No matter where I go, I must return to my home

('cause my mother is in my home)]

I no want make person tell me sey I too lazy

(Oluwa Burna of la la ni)

[I don't want to be told that I am too lazy

(It is 'Lord' Burna of la la - Lagos)]

As I dey hustle like Adebayo Ogunlesi

(No go talk say me I too lazy)

[As I am hustling like Adebayo Ogunlesi: a successful Nigerian lawyer and investment banker

(Don't tell me that I am too lazy)]

Anywhere I go mo n’ lati pada si ile mi

(cuz mama mi won wa ni ile mi)

[No matter where I go, I must return to my home

('cause my mother is in my home)]

Wonderful, hmmm

[Wonderful, hmmm]

I go show you wonder waa ri wonderful

[I will show you wonder, you will see 'wonderful']

You no go believe wetin wan happen

[You won't believe what is about to happen]

No disturbance when the gbedu wan catch you

[No disturbance when the music/beat is about to grip you]

Iz like you dey sleep but this one pass you

[It seems you're not conscious of it, but this is more than you]

(Banga)

[(Banger)]

As the gbedu don start

[As the music has started

(They're dancing)]

From your feet all over

(Won jo)

[Right from your feet and all over

(They're dancing)]

With somebody daughter

(Won jo)

[With someone's daughter

(They're dancing)]

Cuz I’m feeling it in my soul

['Cause I'm feeling it in my soul]

Something is changing

[Something is changing]

Right in your face

[Right in your face]

Dey there slow

[Stay calm]

Something dey scratch me

[Something is itching me]

Kon be like jazz

[And it seems like a jazz ('jazz' here could mean 'magical power/trick' as used by Nigerians)]
