Anderson Obiagwu is popularly known as Big A. in the African entertainment scene. The music lover who has been in the business of showcasing African creatives to the world is the founder of the prestigious African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) and the trailblazing, Big A Entertainment.

Obiagwu, over the past decade, has built an inclination for excellence and has evolved as one of the biggest promoters of African arts and entertainment worldwide. He followed through with his passion for pushing African music to the international scene and has since crafted a brand to reckon with in the creative industry. What started as a genuine love for the industry, morphed into an avenue to positively impact creatives’ lives. The stories of many African artists who have made it to the global stage are incomplete without the mention of Big A.’s name.

In a quick chat with AfroVibes, the Imo State-born music entrepreneur shared details of his premiere “Homecoming Nigeria“ event.

The music executive, whose lifelong dream is to showcase Africa positively to quell the continent’s misinformation, started the journey with an organized group trip to Nigeria. “The reason why we started Homecoming Nigeria was for us to be able to, you know, to bring our kids home and let them see what Nigeria is all about,” he said. Obiagwu described Nigeria as a beautiful country, and founding this initiative affords Africans in the diaspora to come and experience Nigeria personally. “We just want to give them the platform, that opportunity for them to come here and see for themselves,” he said.

Obiagwu, who spent most of his childhood in the eastern part of Nigeria, highlighted that although there are many concerns in African countries, these challenges are not alien to developed countries, thus one should not let the wrong narrative sail through without attempting to change it in his/her own capacity.

“We can’t run away from who we are. We are Africans, we are Nigerians, so we have to come here. If we have to fix it, we have to be the ones to come together and fix the country,” he said, imploring Nigerians in the diaspora to come home.

The music executive isn’t all talk and no action; he has proven himself worthy of being an ambassador by using his platform to propagate multi-city tours for African musicians, comedians, and creatives - acting as a passionate supporter of the Nigerian community. In that vein, he called on Nigerians in the diaspora to paint the country in a positive light after their visit. “You are now an ambassador, so you go back and preach the word out there, put the good word that Nigeria is good, it’s a beautiful country,“ he advised.

The first edition of the “Homecoming Nigeria” event was fun-packed with several activities that made learning about the country more enjoyable. “We had different events - speed dating activities, back to the roots tour, cultural tours, boat parties, night parties, and a host of different activities,” the music executive revealed. Although the first edition of the program went well, future editions promise to be better as there is room for growth and improvement. “We might add more activities next year; it’s definitely going to keep growing,” he concluded.

As of recently, Obiagwu is gearing up for this year‘s AFRIMMA Awards happening in Dallas, Texas (virtually) on November, 15, 2020. The event will feature musicians such as Flavour, Yemi Alade, Rema, Fally Ipupa and more. To keep up with Obiagwu, follow him on instagram.
