To Celebrate Runtown’s Birthday, We Took A Look At Some Of His Hit Songs

It's Runtown’s Birthday, Let’s Take A Look At His Hit Songs.

“Mad Over You” crooner, Runtown, turns thirty-one on August 19th. The popular musician was born in Enugu but grew up in both Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria. In honor of his birthday, we take a trip down memory lane to discuss four of his songs that received significant airplay.

1.Gallardo

Gallardo was Runtown’s claim to fame. Although being in the music industry for years before its release, the singer got his big break after the song became one of Nigeria’s hottest hits in 2015. The party jam which featured Davido, achieved commercial success and soon became a club banger. “Gallardo” was the lead single off the singers’ first studio album “Ghetto University."

2. Mad Over You

Runtown showcased a side of himself that we hadn’t seen before with the song, “Mad Over You." He poses as a love-stricken romantic for his Ghanaian lover. The record, which was released at the tail end of 2016, broke new grounds for the singer as it kept him headlining tours and performing in concerts throughout the following year. The music video reached over 100 million views on YouTube, making it one of the most viewed African music videos on the video streaming site.

3. The Banger

Runtown teamed up with the South African Music group, Uhuru, to give us this masterpiece. “The Banger,” released in 2016, was a part of the singer’s debut album, “Ghetto University.” The song, which became a club anthem, is a perfect blend of Afro-Fusion and South African house music.

4. Bend Down Pause

“Bend Down Pause” by Runtown featuring Wizkid and Walshy Fire was an instant hit. The record, which was a mix of dancehall and reggae, resonated in countries far beyond Africa. Months after its initial release, the song’s success caught the attention of the most prominent soca artist, Machel Montano, who then curated a carnival remix. The remix gave Runtown the chance to perform at soca events alongside Major Lazer, Lil john, and Pitbull.

From the inception of his career until now, Runtown has continually shown that he has the Afro-Fusion vibe on lockdown. Although he’s been away from the music scene for some time due to setbacks with his record label, the singer recently took to his Instagram to announce a new project in the works. We wish him a happy birthday and many more smash hits.
