davido fem.jpg

The term, "Fem," originates from the Yoruba language in Nigeria and it mainly refers to telling someone to "shut up" or to "keep quiet."

The song, "Fem," by the Nigerian singer-songwriter, Davido whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, is the artist's newest 2020 single. The song will be apart of his upcoming album titled, A Better Time (#ABT).

The 27-year old singer released the song on September 10th and announced it on social media by saying, "To the people talking about you because they don’t understand your shine, they don’t understand your grace, they don’t understand why they can never be what you are or have what you have... we say #FEM!"

Some say he used this single to diss other popular Nigerian artists as the "Fem" lyrics mention:

"E be like you don dey tok too much, small tok you don dey tok tok, fem. O boy, you don dey do too much, small tok you don dey look who tok, fem…"

"Pesin wey dey find pity, no dey do me itty bitty. You wan know 30 BG, you go know 30 GB wen you see 30 BG…"

"Then Odogwu say we 'Like To Party' just call me...:"

Even still, the song immediately went viral and the music video currently has over five million views on YouTube. "Fem" continues to show up on every social media platform and most fans seem to have given it a thumbs up on Twitter.

Most of the song is in the Yoruba language and pidgin English so we present the lyrics so that you can listen and follow along. Enjoy!

The Man at the Stop Sign: BLM

Stop sign

I was driving back home after my dentist appointment today when I came to a stop sign. As I prepared to press on the pedal to continue my journey, I saw a man to my left marching in the middle of the road. My immediate thought was, “this man must be crazy.”
