In Light of Breonna Taylor’s Death, A Louisville, Kentucky Cop Looks Forward To Joining The Protests

My love for God and my desire for truth and justice compels me to speak up. My love for those who have been created in the image of God compels me to speak up. My love for my children who have to live in a world where there are power imbalances and racial inequality compels me to speak up. My love for law enforcement and those who bare the daily burden of putting their life on the line for the sake of others compels me to speak up.
I’ve realized that I don’t have to choose a side. Admittedly so, I face that dichotomy daily. I can equally love my job and be heartbroken by the reality of police brutality and systemic injustice. I can equally want accountability for those in law enforcement and justice for those who have experienced injustice. I’m blessed to live in this space. I love it.
I look forward to joining the protests on my next off day. Let’s lock arms and work together to bring about change. We need reform. We need accountability. Let’s pray. Let’s work. See you out there.
